Annual Huguenot Service
Our Annual Huguenot Service will take place this year on the afternoon of Sunday October 14th 2018 and all are welcome to attend this very special service at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin which was founded in 1191.
AGM & Book Launch
Our AGM took place on Saturday, June 16th 2018 at Marsh’s Library. The event was very enjoyable both for the academic and the social content. The Director and staff always make us very welcome and we appreciate their generosity. This was our first AGM chaired by our new Chair – John Maiben Gilmartin.
After the AGM we invited Huguenot Society Committee Member and author, Marie Léoutre, to speak about her book on Ruvigny which has recently been published.
This book assesses the service of Henri de Ruvigny, later earl of Galway, in France until the revocation of the edict of Nantes in 1685, his central role in transforming Ireland in the aftermath of the Glorious Revolution, and his service of the British monarchy as administrator, military commander and diplomat. The analysis benefits from under-utilised sources in French, shedding light on a hitherto overlooked civil servant in this crucial period of Irish and British history, wrought with constitutional crises, but also on the Protestant International and lesser-known fronts of the war of 1689-1697.
Note: A discount is available for Huguenot Society members wishing to purchase copies of the book by using this Voucher.
